How to Download a Facebook Video

Step 1 – Copy the video link

In the Facebook app, tap Share under the video and choose "Copy link". On a computer, click the three dots (...) on the post and choose "Copy link", or copy the address from your browser's address bar.

Step 2 – Paste it into GetVidFB

Come back to this page, tap Paste (or paste the link into the box yourself) and press Download. You can paste a whole message that contains the link: GetVidFB picks out the link and strips the tracking parameters for you.

Step 3 – Choose a quality and save

After a few seconds you see every version available: Video/Mp4 in HD and SD, higher resolutions such as 1080p when Facebook has them, Audio/Mp3, and Photo/Jpg for the cover image. Tap the one you want and the file is saved to your device.

Download Facebook Videos in HD, from SD to 4K

GetVidFB lists every resolution Facebook stores for a video. HD (usually 720p) and SD are ready to download straight away, with sound. Full HD 1080p, 2K and 4K appear as extra buttons when the uploader posted the video in that resolution.

Why some videos have no HD or 1080p

Facebook only keeps the resolutions it received. An older video, a clip filmed on a low-resolution camera or a video uploaded with HD upload turned off may exist only in SD, and no downloader can add detail that was never uploaded.

How video and audio are merged

For 1080p and above, Facebook stores the picture and the sound as two separate files. When you pick one of these versions, a short ad may play first, then our server downloads both parts and joins them into one MP4 (H.264) that plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. This takes from a few seconds to a few minutes and works for videos up to 15 minutes long. For longer videos, use the HD or SD button.

Reels use the same box: paste a facebook.com/reel/ or facebook.com/share/r/ link and save the reel in HD or as MP3. Which Facebook Links Are Supported?

One box handles all the common Facebook link formats, from the full facebook.com address to the short links the Facebook app creates. Links from m.facebook.com and web.facebook.com work the same way as facebook.com.

Videos and public posts

Links that contain /watch/?v=, /videos/ or /reel/, and links to public posts or public group posts that include a video.

Short links: share/, share/r/, share/v/ and fb.watch

When you tap Share in the Facebook app, you get a short link such as facebook.com/share/r/… for a reel, facebook.com/share/v/… for a video or facebook.com/share/p/… for a post. Paste these exactly as they are, and fb.watch links too: GetVidFB finds the original video for you.

Ended live replays

Once a live broadcast has ended and its replay stays on the Page or profile, its link works like any other video, and you can also save just the audio as MP3. A stream that is still live cannot be downloaded until it ends.

Download on Any Device

iPhone and iPad

Open getvidfb.com in Safari, paste the link and tap the quality you want, then tap Download when Safari asks. The video is saved in the Files app, in the Downloads folder. To move it into Photos, open it in Files, tap Share and choose "Save Video". If Safari plays the video instead of saving it, press and hold the button and choose "Download Linked File".

Android

Open getvidfb.com in Chrome or another browser, paste the link and tap a quality. The file goes to the Downloads folder and shows up in your Gallery or Files app. If you opened the page from inside Facebook or Messenger, switch to Chrome first: in-app browsers often play the video instead of saving it. We also have a free Android app on Google Play.

Windows and Mac

Click the quality you want and the file lands in your Downloads folder. If the browser opens the video in a new tab instead, right-click the button and choose "Save link as…". Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work, with no extension needed.

Troubleshooting

"Not a valid link" or "not supported"

Check that you copied the link of the video itself, not of a profile, a Page or a group. Links from TikTok, Pinterest and Reddit also work in this box, but YouTube and Instagram links are not supported.

Video unavailable or not found

The post is not public, it has been deleted, or it is blocked in your country. Look at the small icon next to the date on the post: a globe means Public. Facebook does not serve other videos to people outside their audience, so no downloader can reach them.

The download does not start

Open getvidfb.com in Chrome, Safari or Firefox rather than in the browser built into the Facebook or Messenger app, and allow downloads if your browser asks. On iPhone, look for the file in Files > Downloads. Download links expire after a few hours, so if an old results page stops working, paste the video link again.

The video has no sound

HD and SD files already include sound, and the higher resolutions are merged with their audio before you download them. If a file is still silent, the original video has no audio track, for example when Facebook muted a song for copyright reasons.

Yes. There is no download limit, no account and no subscription. The site is paid for by ads, and the merged high-resolution versions may show a short ad before they start.
No. You get the video as Facebook stores it, with nothing added on top. GetVidFB cannot remove a logo or text that is already part of the video itself.
No. GetVidFB never asks for your Facebook account or password. It works with videos that anyone can open, which is also why posts shared with a limited audience cannot be downloaded.
Saving a video to watch offline is generally fine, but Facebook's Terms and copyright law still apply. Download your own videos, videos you have permission to save, or videos the creator shared publicly, and do not re-upload or earn money from someone else's work.
Yes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is installed on your device. We do not keep the videos you download: merged files are deleted from our server within 30 minutes. The links you paste stay in our server logs for up to 60 days so we can fix links that fail, then they are deleted automatically.
Yes. Choose Audio/Mp3 on the results page, or use Facebook to MP3. Our server converts the soundtrack into a real MP3 file, for videos up to 3 hours long.
